THE BANG

CULTURAL MID RISE

For our proposal to The-Bang, a mixed-use cultural building competition in Battambang, Cambodia, we partnered with the renowned local artist Fonki to deliver a design inspired by the historical religious Buddhist and Hindu architecture of the Khmer Empire.

Combining art gallery, coworking space, cafe, artists residence and workshop space, our proposal aims to be an iconic form in the skyline of Battambang, highlighting the emerging arts culture in Cambodia with an architectural building which would be recognised around the world.

The building is designed to be fully accessible, with lift and stairs, ramps and services integrated into dedicated cores, and complying Australian access codes.

A concrete structure with a steel space-frame highlights the designs emphasis on builability. The external skin is designed to be insulated panels engraved in Kback art by Fonki, so the building itself is an art form.
